Boys hockey: Delano takes home a conference win

LITCHFIELD — Delano held off the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato boys hockey team on Monday. The Tigers secured a 2-1 victory in the Wright County Conference game at Litchfield Civic Arena. Delano, ranked No.

11 in Class A by Let’s Play Hockey, is atop the conference with a 5-2-1 record and is 12-10-1 overall. Litchfield/D-C is 1-7 in conference games and 8-15 overall. Aaron Halonen opened up the game’s scoring with a power-play goal at 5 minutes, 50 seconds of the middle frame.



His goal came off an assist by Markus Kangas. Kangas expanded Delano’s lead to 2-0 at 12:13 of the third period. Brody Geislinger and Joseph McCabe were awarded assists on Kangas’ even-strength goal.

Keeran Niska cut Litchfield/D-C’s deficit to 2-1 at 16:51 of the third period. The senior defenseman has three goals and three assists on the year. Carson Brummond assisted on Niska’s tally.

Brummond has 14 goals and 11 assists this season. Braxton Graupmann kept Litchfield/D-C within striking distance. The senior goaltender made 44 saves on 46 shots faced.

Litchfield/D-C plays a Wright County game against Hutchinson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burich Arena.
