It should be a banner year for boys golf in Lincoln, with state title contenders in both the team and individual races. Here are a few players to watch as the season enters its second week. Thomas Bryson, Southeast, sr.

It seems like yesterday that Bryson was a freshman winning the Class A state title. Now a senior with three top 10 finishes at state, he's one of the favorites again to bring home a gold medal in May. Bryson was second in a loaded field at the Lincoln Pius X Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club, and also fired a 71 in a season-opening quadrangular win for the Knights over a field that included state title contenders Omaha Westside and Creighton Prep.

Owen Tucker, Southeast, sr. Part of a talented and experienced Southeast trio that will have the Knights in the title hunt for the third year in a row. People are also reading.

.. Tucker, an Odessa (Texas) College commit, was fifth at state last season.

Miles Elgert, Southeast, so. Elgert cracked Southeast's lineup as a freshman last season, and parlayed it into a top-26 finish at the state meet. Like Bryson, he fired a 71 to open the season, and has spent the Knights' first two competitions playing out of the No.

1 spot. Carter Honnens, East, so. Honnens is another sophomore who made a big impact last season, finishing 17th at state as a freshman.

A 71 at the Pius X Invitational, where East finished two shots behind Omaha Westside in second and six shots ahead of Southeast, show the momentum has carried over. Max Moss, East, so. Another in the deep sophomore class of golfers in Lincoln.

Moss was one shot behind Honnens at state last season, finishing 18th, and grabbed a top-15 finish at the Pius X Invitational. Zack Erstad, East, jr. Erstad tied for 24th at state last season as a sophomore, and is one of four golfers back from East's fourth-place state tournament team.

He was one shot out of a playoff with Bryson and Omaha Westside's Tye Treadwell for the individual title at the Pius X invitational. Hayden Tenopir, Northeast, jr. Tenopir led Northeast to its first state tournament appearance in 27 years last season, finished in the top 40 at state, and then had a strong summer.

A pretty good 3-point shooter on the basketball court this winter, Tenopir wouldn't mind making a bunch of threes this spring. Reach the writer at (402) 473-7436 or [email protected] .
