A BOY scouts programme coach in Seke, Chitungwiza has been sentenced to an effective 28 years imprisonment following his conviction on several counts of molesting trainees. The accused person, whose identity was withheld, appeared before the Chitungwiza Regional Magistrates’ Court facing seven charges of aggravated indecent assault and six of contravening the Data Protection Act for exposing the minors to explicit pornographic material. The court heard that the incidents happened between the period stretching from January 2022 to January this year.

The accused person would pounce on his victims during camp when he would instruct the boys, aged between 10 and 19, to thoroughly wash themselves after which he would show them porn on his laptop before indecently attacking them. The matter came to light after one of the victims narrated his ordeal to his parents, who later exposed the trainer’s shenanigans on the parents’ WhatsApp group. Investigations led to a flurry of similar harrowing narrations of violations against the boys.
