Boutique owner duped of 15 lakh by her clients

Times News Network Ludhiana: Police booked three women and an unidentified aide for duping a boutique owner of Rs 15 lakh in the name of senior police officers. She told the victim to pay to get a police case filed against her and her family “settled.” When the accused stopped responding to her calls after payment, she realised that she had been duped.

The victim, Sarita Goyal , filed a police complaint , after which a case was registered against Jaspreet Kaur of Jagraon, Amroz of Galib Kalan village, Harwinder Kaur of Kothey Sherjung village and an unidentified accomplice. The complainant, Sarita Goyal said that her husband is an arhtiya, commission agent, while she runs a boutique. The accused women were her customers at the boutique.



She said that on November 9, 2023, Sadar Jagraon police lodged an FIR under sections 420 ( cheating ) and 498-A (husband or relative of woman subjecting her to cruelty) of IPC against her, her husband Jugal Kishore Goyal and son Kashish Goyal on the complaint of their daughter-in-law’s father. She added that she confided in Jaspreet as she and her family were upset about the FIR. Jaspreet claimed that she and her friends had contacts with senior police officers and they could help her get the FIR cancelled.

The complainant claimed that the accused took Rs 15 lakh cash from her on different occasions saying that it was needed to bribe police officials and get the FIR cancelled. However, she said that the police did not cancel the FIR and the accused women also stopped responding to her calls. Thereafter, he filed a complaint with the police on September 3.

Investigating officer, ASI Angrej Singh said that the police conducted an inquiry after receiving a complaint.
