Boulder Creek man dies after fleeing law enforcement, crashing into tree

BOULDER CREEK — A Boulder Creek man died Thursday after fleeing from law enforcement and crashing his vehicle into a tree. According to a release from the California Highway Patrol, a California State Parks Ranger attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black 2014 Mazda 3 heading southbound on Highway 9 at Two Bar Road around 10:17 p.m.

The situation escalated into a brief pursuit after the vehicle failed to yield to the patrol car’s lights. It ended when the Mazda, for unknown reasons, veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree south of Juanita Road. The driver, 36, sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts from medical personnel.
