Having been unexpectedly thrust into the limelight for a Bundesliga side with European ambitions this season , young Luxembourg international Tiago Pereira Cardoso is living his childhood dream. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s new No. 1 – not exactly far removed from childhood at the age of 18 – spoke with club media about his recent professional journey.
Ahead of his 19th birthday on Monday, the youngster still doesn’t know what it feels like to concede a goal in the German top flight. The recent experience of starting his first BMG home match in front of 50,000 plus fans at Borussia Park – in which he kept a clean sheet in a crucial victory over RB Leipzig – leaves him with nothing but positive experiences to report. “ It felt amazing ,” Pereira Cardoso noted in his club interview.
“ It was the first time I really understood what it means when they say a stadium ‘burns’. You really felt the stadium during the last few minutes. The fans were just amazing.
It was another world. “ Pereira Cardoso is also slated to start for the Foals away at St. Pauli on Sunday.
Given the opponent’s offensive woes , particularly at home, another spotless day between the sticks could be in the cards. The keeper spoke on his eagerness to visit the Millerntor as well. “ I’m really looking forward to the game,” Pereira Cardoso said.
“ St. Pauli [fighting relegation] means that a lot is still at stake for both teams. I expect a very exciting game.
