Dortmund are 11th. They have 29 points from 22 matches and are eight points outside of the top four. As a result of their poor league form, BVB sacked Nuri Sahin in January, replacing him with Niko Kovac.
So far there has been little change under Kovac. BVB are still struggling in the Bundesliga, while simultaneously doing okay in the Champions League.Kovac has been in charge for four matches now.
He started with a 2-1 home defeat to Stuttgart and followed that up with a 3-0 away win at Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League playoffs.Would that win be the catalyst for an improvement in BVB’s league form? No. They lost their next Bundesliga match 2-0 away at Bochum on Saturday.
In fairness, there has to be a caveat put on the two Bundesliga defeats under Kovac. The Black and Yellow were playing in the Champions League on Wednesdays after both their league setbacks. And on both occasions, BVB got the desired result in Europe.
The latest was the 0-0 draw at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday that sealed Dortmund’s 3-0 aggregate win over Sporting and their place in the Round of 16. There are no excuses this weekend. Dortmund has no European distractions until March 4th, meaning they can fully focus on the Bundesliga this Saturday.
Union Berlin is 13th in the Bundesliga table with 24 points from 22 matches. A strong start to the season saw Union pick up 14 points from their first seven matches. Since then it has been hard going for Die Eisernen.
A run of eight matches without a win saw the club dismiss Bo Svensson from his head coach role during the winter break.Into Svensson’s place stepped Steffen Baumgart. Under Baumgart, Berlin has picked up seven points from seven matches, with two wins, one draw and four defeats.
Berlin warmed up for Dortmund with a 2-1 home defeat to Monchengladbach on Saturday. The result was a setback for Die Eisernen after they had picked up four points from their previous two matches. A mini-run that included a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim – Union’s best result of the season.

Dortmund vs Union Berlin betting tipsTwo struggling teams meet on Matchday 22 of the Bundesliga. Both teams are trying to turn their seasons around. Our Dortmund vs Union Berlin betting tips are below:Dortmund to win or draw and BTTSIf Borussia Dortmund could replicate their Champions League form in the Bundesliga, this would probably be an easy three points.
Sadly they can’t. We still think Dortmund should beat Union Berlin, after all, there is no Champions League to distract them this coming midweek. Free Bet OffersCheck out all the best betting offers available from our partnersClaim Free Bets here18+ gambleaware.
org T&Cs ApplyThe problem is we just can’t trust BVB, and they are too short to back for a win at odds of 8/15.Luckily, Betfred offers a double chance and both teams to score betting market. For Dortmund to win or draw, along with both teams scoring, they are offering odds of 19/20.
We don’t see Dortmund losing, and we don’t see them keeping a clean sheet either, making this the ideal wager. Back Dortmund to win or draw and BTTS in the double chance and BTTS market at 19/20 with Betfred Both teams to score and over 2.5 goalsA great alternative bet to the one above is both teams to score and over 2.
5 goals. Both teams have scored in nine of Dortmund’s last 11 Bundesliga matches. Furthermore, both teams have scored and there have been over 2.
5 goals in six of Dortmund’s last eight in the league. Matches involving Union Berlin don’t see over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring too often.
But Die Eisernen have scored in their last two matches and three of their last five. And the best statistic for this wager is Dortmund haven’t kept a clean sheet in the Bundesliga since November 23rd. That’s a run of 11 matches without a clean sheet.
Back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 5/6 with Tote Serhou Guirassy to score or assistSerhou Guirassy is almost a microcosm of Dortmund’s season. He is brilliant in Europe, but not so in the Bundesliga.
That said, his Bundesliga form isn’t as bad as Dortmund’s. Guirassy has nine goals and three assists in his 19 matches. That’s still a goal involvement in 63% of his matches.
And considering how bad Dortmund’s season is going, that’s a half-decent record. But in Europe, Guirassy’s record is phenomenal. The 28-year-old has ten goals and three assists in ten matches – in the recent 3-0 win over Sporting, he registered a goal and an assist.
Guirassy scored two and provided one assist on Matchday 19 and 20 in the Bundesliga. He didn’t contribute in Dortmund’s two most recent defeats, but as we alluded to earlier, both matches were the weekend before a Champions League fixture. This bet is 4/7 with other bookmakers.
