Forty-three-year-old Wayne Wilkes, who gave an address in Hawick, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened at Boots in Galashiels on January 14. Prosecutor India MacLean said the toiletries had a value of £77.50 and there was no recovery.
Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said his client had no idea why he had committed the offence but added he was perhaps intending to sell the items to fund his drug addiction. The court heard Wilkes was due to be released from prison on Wednesday for another shoplifting offence. But Sheriff Peter Paterson said he had no option but to impose another jail sentence due to Wilkes’ record.
