Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will have to wait a bit longer to return to Bundesliga action for Bayer Leverkusen. According to Sky Sports DE, the Nigerian forward has taken a small step back in his rehabilitation, as announced by Bayer during a friendly match against regional league team Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Boniface had only just returned to team training shortly before Christmas.

He has been sidelined since early November due to a thigh injury he sustained while on international duty with Nigeria. He was expected to make his comeback for Leverkusen’s first game of 2025 against Borussia Dortmund, scheduled for Friday, January 10. However, that now seems unlikely.

Despite Boniface’s absence since November, his impact has not been missed as Patrik Schick has stepped up, delivering solid performances in attack, which have caught the attention of coach Xabi Alonso..
