2024 was not a great year for Bollywood at the box office, and honestly, it looks like the same story has repeated in the first quarter of 2025. The Hindi film industry delivered more disappointments than money-spinners at the ticket windows. The year started with very small films like The Rabbit House, Pyar Mein Qurban, Madam Driver, Dil Awaara, Match Fixing, Love Is Forever and Manchalo Ki Masti , which had negligible collections at the box office.
Sonu Sood’s Fateh was below average with the business around Rs 20 crore, while Azaad & Emergency bombed with collections of around Rs 8 and Rs 21 crore. Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force has earned around Rs 135 crore, but the accusations of block bookings and inflated figures have questioned its credibility. While Shahid Kapoor starrer Deva , Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravikumar & Junaid Khan-Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa failed to attract the audience with collections of approximately Rs 34 crore, Rs 14 crore and Rs 7 crore respectively.
It was Vicky Kaushal & Rashmika Mandanna starrer Chhaava that made the first quarter memorable for Bollywood, as it raked in over Rs 600 crore at the box office, including the Telugu version. However, post-Chaava, we again saw the downfall of Bollywood with Mere Husband Ki Biwi & Superboys Of Malegaon doing disappointing business of just over Rs 12 crore and crore. Sohum Shah starrer Crazxy did a decent business of over Rs 14 crore as it was made on a low budget.
John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb starrer The Diplomat has earned over Rs 37 crore and did a decent business as the film was released with low buzz and promotions. However, the biggest disappointment was the dismal business of Salman Khan starrer Sikandar , which managed to earn only Rs 86.43 crore in its first three days despite arriving during the festive season of Eid.
These numbers are too low, considering the star power of Salman Khan. With Kesari 2, Housefull 5, Baaghi 4, War 2, Alpha, No Entry 2, Thama, Jaat, Jolly LLB 3, Raid 2, Son of Sardaar 2, Shakti Shalini and Tere Ishk Mein are expected to arrive in the coming months, let’s expect Bollywood to bounce back at the box office with a bang..
