The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Interior Health have issued a boil water notice for properties in Vernon affected by a broken water main. The ruptured water main resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity Friday late afternoon, Aug. 30.

The areas of 32nd Avenue between Alexis Park Drive and Bella Vista Road, and 38th Street between 32nd and 30th avenues (as shown on the above map) are under a boil water notice while the RDNO replaces, flushes and samples the water main to ensure the safety of the water system. A contractor is currently on site repairing the break and the water is expected to return late tonight. The RDNO says service and treatment have been maintained, but affected residents should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing any food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.

After the repairs are finished, residents may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water or air in the water. They are advised to run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

Questions related to the time of the repair can be directed to Sunridge Contracting Ltd. at 250-299-7816. Other questions can be directed to the RDNO's utilities department at 250-550-3700.

A due to a separate water main break was issued in Coldstream Friday morning..
