A United Airlines passenger plane was forced to suddenly land at Gatwick Airport after declaring an emergency. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane was on its way from Chicago , US , to Frankfurt in Germany when it ran into trouble. Its pilot sent out a squawk code 7700 which means general emergency on board the plane.

Flight data shows the UA907 cruising at about 5,438 feet when the emergency incident happened. It was diverted to London Gatwick shortly before 8.30am UK time.

The plane was originally scheduled to arrive at Frankfurt shortly before 10am local time. The emergency code gives the plane priority over others – and the pilots free reign to do anything required to ensure safety, Flightradar24 explained.
