The body of a scuba diver who went missing in the water off the Long Sault Parkway was been recovered. The Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP responded to a call at about 7:45 p.m.
on Wednesday from Lock 21, part of a submerged canal system that is a well-known dive site at the west end of Macdonell Island on the St. Lawrence River near Long Sault, about 15 kilometres west of Cornwall. Police say four divers entered the water, but only three resurfaced.
Other first responders joined the search, including the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. The diver’s body was located at about 11:30 a.
m. Thursday by the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP, assisted by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The diver’s name has not been released.
