LOS ANGELES, California — A body was discovered following a fire in South Los Angeles early Thursday morning, authorities said. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the blaze around 5 a.m.

on East Vernon Avenue. Firefighters extinguished the fire and found the body of an individual who had sustained extensive thermal injuries, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.



The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and a joint investigation is underway by the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division, the LAFD Arson Unit, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
