The 65-year-old man, from Toowoomba, and a 69-year-old NSW woman drove from a caravan park in Croydon, about 500km west of Cairns, on Sunday to Esmeralda Station. Police launched a land and air search for the pair the following day, when they failed to return to their vehicle.

Local residents and landowners also joined the effort, with air searches from helicopters used for stock mustering.
A helicopter discovered bodies of the man and woman yesterday afternoon. The bodies were only 2.5km from their ute.
They went missing amid sweltering conditions as temperatures rose to nearly 40 degrees. Police will prepare a report for the coroner..
