Bobby Brown torched Britney Spears for her rendition of his 1988 hit song, “Prerogative” on Thursday’s episode of Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. The famous singer didn’t mince words when asked about how he felt about other artists sampling his music, and made it clear that he has to be hear the songs first. “I gotta hear it,” Brown said.
“You don’t know what these kids will say these days!” he exclaimed. Brown went on to say “you don’t want your song associated with them – so yeah, you gotta listen to it.” He went on to say he felt Spears’ version of his song “was a butchering.
” Sharpe began by asking Brown if he liked any of the samples by other artists that redid his music. “Um, I don’t think they did it justice,” he said. “I don’t think they really did justice to any of the samples they have done to my songs,” Brown told Sharpe on the podcast.
He then laced into Spears, making it clear that her version did not meet his standards. “Like Britney Spears – butchered -she butchered ‘Prerogative,'” he said. Brown said, “Teddy Riley produced it but that was a butchering that you know – I – I couldn’t take it!” Sharpe reminded the famous singer that he had authorized Spears to take on the task of sampling his tune .
