The Bahamas National Statistical Institute (BNSI) recorded a 0.4 percent increase in inflation in February 2025, when compared to January 2025. The BNSI explained that the increase represents the overall price of items purchased by consumers for that period.
The report said: “This February 2025 increase followed an 0.1 percent increase between the months of December 2024 and January 2025. “On a month-to-month basis, the major increases by group included health, 5.
6 percent; along with food and non-alcoholic beverages, 1.2 percent. Meanwhile, the major decreases included clothing and footwear, alongside miscellaneous goods, both declining by 0.
3 percent.” The report added: “Furthermore, for February 2025 the CPI [consumer price index] increased 0.8 percent when compared to this same period last year.
However, year over year, the major categories that registered increases included transportation, 2.3 percent; health services, 2.1 percent; along with miscellaneous goods and services, 1.
9 percent. Meanwhile, recreation and culture along with housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased by 2.1 percent and 1.
3 percent respectively, when compared to this same period last year.” When compared to January 2025, the price of gasoline increased by 1.5 percent, while the price of diesel remains unchanged.
However, when compared to this same period last year, gasoline increased 3.4 percent and diesel declined 13 percent..
