BMW has revealed a new racecar. It is called the M2 Racing and it has only one purpose, to go on the track. This is all well and good since this is not the first time a manufacturer has built a racecar version of their road car but the this is particularly interesting since the powertrain of choice is a 4-cylinder.

Yes, you read that right, powering the M2 Racing is a 2.0L four-cylinder engine and BMW has done away with the S58 inline-6. The 2.

0L is not the same as other 2.0L’s in BMW’s lineup. It has been tuned for the track specifically and produces 308 bhp and 420 Nm of torque.

There are changes to the transmission as well and power goes to the rear wheels via a 7-speed ZF automatic. Other additions include non-adjustable KW coilovers, BMW M-compound brakes, some slick rubber, LED headlights, a rear fog light, adjustable anti-roll bars, a different front splitter and lightweight roof. On the interior, it is all business again and the M2 Racing receives a full roll-cage which complies with the FIA, Sabelt GT-AM racing seats, and a fire extinguisher.

The price you ask? It is priced at €98,000. This is a lot more expensive than the road going version of the M2 but this is a proper race car which is built to go racing and it is a bargain in the grand scheme of things. For comparison, the BMW M4 GT3 racecar is priced at €415,000.
