The store, located on Watling Road, is seeking permission to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week. This application has been submitted to Durham County Council as the store prepares to open in the former Homebase building. Shoppers will be able to inspect the application at the council’s Annand House offices in Durham or make representations about the proposal until April 1.
In a separate development, the government has authorised the closure of five sections of Public Footpath No 5 in Darlington. These sections, located north of Rotary Way, are being closed to allow for a new development approved by Darlington Borough Council. The paths are expected to be closed until April 4.
Meanwhile, Global Ardour Recycling Ltd has applied for a Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence. The Preston-based company wants to use Unit 13, Hackworth Industrial Estate in Shildon, as an operating centre for seven goods vehicles and four trailers. Residents living near the proposed site can submit their views to the Traffic Commissioner by March 27.
Elsewhere, M Dobson Ltd is looking to change its existing goods vehicle operator's licence. The company, based in Willington, wants to add an extra goods vehicle to its operating centre. Residents near Stable House, Willington, can also submit their views to the Traffic Commissioner by March 27.
Durham County Council has also advertised several planning applications. These include a proposal to change the use of the first to third floors at 70 Saddler Street, Durham, to a C4 House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). Another application seeks to vary conditions at Unit 12, Bishop Auckland Retail Park, to install a mezzanine.
Durham Crown Court has submitted an application to install boilers, louvres to windows, and a flue. Other applications include varying a condition at 4 Village Farm, Murton; altering an internal wall and building up a doorway at Hallgarth Manor, Kirk Merrington; and a proposal for up to 18 dwellings at Dear Bank, Dean & Chapter Industrial Estate.
