Attention hikers and outdoor enthusiasts: Bluffs Regional Park Trail, a daily destination for around 500 visitors, is under the knife once more as crews tackle the ever-present issue of trail erosion. According to Douglas County, a segment of the trail has been rendered dangerous from wear and degradation, prompting reconstruction efforts that began in December on the southwest portion of the loop. The workload has now shifted to a new phase where crews will be hauling in a substantial 85 truckloads of material to reinforce the paths, because heaven forbid we watch where we're walking or, you know, tread lightly.
However, with the influx of the much-needed materials comes a necessary evil, trail closures, slated for Monday, March 24, through Friday, April 4, the East-West Regional Trail and the Bluffs Regional Circle will play host to heavy machinery which means no room for your bikes or hiking boots during this period so for the love of all that is outdoorsy, keep away from the barricaded sections.Hikers aren't being left entirely in the lurch, though they can still hit the Bluffs Regional Trail via an out-and-back route from the trailhead using the northern sliver of the 2.5-mile loop until the sweet sound of construction halts progress.
If you're cycling, pivots to the East-West Regional Trail are possible to the east or west of disruption central, the park but the full pass-through isn't on the table till potentially April..
