The Toronto Blue Jays failed to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during the offseason but have now come through by giving him a lucrative contract. This move could drastically change how they build their roster moving forward.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post , Guerrero's new contract is a 14-year, $500 million deal with no deferrals, a no-trade clause, and a signing bonus. The deal is a huge financial commitment that could affect Bo Bichette. Although Bichette has noted that he wants to keep playing with Guerrero, he is slated to become a free agent, and the Blue Jays may not be able to afford him.

FanSided's Zachary Rotman predicted that Bichette "won't be back" in 2026 following Guerrero's new $500 million deal. "Bichette's contract situation is a tricky one, to say the least," wrote Rotman. "He's led the American League in hits twice, is a two-time All-Star, and has received down-ballot MVP votes in three separate seasons.

When he's right, he's a great player, and is off to a solid start to his 2025 campaign. With that being said, Bichette is coming off a down year in 2024, is going to be asking for a lot of money, and the Jays have a plethora of replacement options for him internally. Andres Gimenez, Will Wagner, Orelvis Martinez, and Addison Barger are all either in the majors or knocking on the door, and can all realistically be viewed as long-term solutions in some capacity.

" Bichette is a two-time All-Star and his next contract will be far more expensive than the three-year, $33 million extension he signed in 2023. Shortstops are being paid at a premium and Bichette is one of the best in the game. Follow The Sporting News On WhatsApp He is 12-for-42 to start the year and has four RBIs.

The Blue Jays would love to keep him around, but after paying Anthony Santander, trading for Gimenez and paying Guerrero, the chances of keeping Bichette in the fold are not that high. More MLB: Yankees-Red Sox blockbuster trade pitch sends $313 million superstar to NY.
