Blantyre golfers feast on Old Mutual tourney

Blantyre-based golfers had a special treat on Saturday when they participated in the 70th Old Mutual Anniversary golf tournament at Blantyre Sports Club. Old Mutual Group Chief Finance Officer Vera Zulu said they lined up a series of tournaments to bring together the institution’s stakeholders in celebrating the company’s seven decades of excellence in Malawi. Zulu said the company has taken a new route by investing in the sport to boost its partnership with its stakeholders.

“You will notice a new crop of golfers emerging from this team, please welcome them to the exciting fraternity. We have taken a strategic shift to invest in this sport to improve our stakeholder engagement, all this with you, our customers and stakeholder in mind. “As a responsible business, we thought it proper to organise this event as one way of demonstrating our commitment to continued engagement with our various stakeholders,” Zulu said.



She said that at Old Mutual they believe in fostering social relationships with customers and promoting healthy lifestyles. “I am glad the tournament today has lived to its billing where among others it has provided us an opportunity as a business to engage with our customers in an informal setting while celebrating the company’s achievements,” Zulu said. In the men’s section, Paul Araujo emerged winner with 63 net while Evance Songola finished as a runner-up with 68 net.

Furkani Gani was third with 70 net. Araujo said it was a tough competition. “I had to keep my composure and my playing partners were equally helpful,” Araujo said.

In the ladies category, Maria Tandwe scored 67 net to rule the section while Ulemu Luhanga settled for silver with 72 net. Satakwawo Zuze scored 74 net but was counted in to finish third. Tandwe was impressed with her performance and she also hailed Old Mutual for sponsoring the tournament.

Old Mutual is set to host a similar tournament in Lilongwe on Saturday..
