Blake Shelton said he hated his tattoo from the moment he got it. Here's why he started viewing it as a mistake.

Blake Shelton designed his own tattoo, and he came to view this as one of the biggest mistakes of his life. The country singer’s barbed wire forearm tattoo has puzzled fans, and Shelton admitted there’s not much he can do to explain the choice. He shared why he wishes he didn’t get his tattoo.

Blake Shelton said his tattoo was a major mistakeWhen Shelton was in his twenties, he decided to get a tattoo. He drew a picture of deer tracks and brought it to a tattoo artist.“I had been drinking on this occasion,” Shelton said, per Refinery29.

“I drew him this deer track and he just went to the copier and made a copy and slapped it on there, and that’s what I drew.”He didn’t grow to regret the tattoo. Instead, he realized it was a mistake the moment the ink touched his skin.

“You know, they say that tattoos are addictive,” Shelton told CMT. “I got this tattoo about 20 years ago and decided — in the moment — one of the worst mistakes of my life.”While he later added barbed wire around the tracks, he doesn’t want any more tattoos.

“I’m never doing that again,” he recalled thinking at the time. “And I stuck to that.”Still, he may have felt glad to have it when Gwen Stefani’s three sons drew versions of the tattoo around their own arms in Sharpie.

He said people seem confused by the tattooShelton likes to hunt and spend time outdoors, so his choice of tattoo isn’t surprising. He didn’t think it had much significance, though, and people never knew what type of design he had on his forearm.“This is what I drew him for a deer track,” he told GAC, per the Boot.

“To this moment, people still come up to me and say, ‘Man, ladybugs ...

that’s cool. What does that mean to you?’ I probably have the crappiest tattoo — not only in country music — but maybe the world.”He said the barbed wire’s purpose was to stop people from thinking he had a trail of ladybugs on his arm.

Blake Shelton felt he made another mistake when he invited Gwen Stefani to perform with himShelton has a self-deprecating sense of humor and has spoken often about his past mistakes. He joked that he made an error when he invited Stefani to join him onstage at a show.“I’m doing my normal, you know, what I think is rockin’.

Standing up there with my acoustic guitar in front of my stand and singing my songs,” Shelton once told Chelsea (via Taste of Country). “I had my band work up one of her songs, ‘Hella Good.’ And I thought ‘Man, that’d be so cool to have her come out and surprise.

’ It’s the worst thing I could have done because all it did was make me look terrible.”RelatedBlake Shelton Said Meeting Miranda Lambert Put Him Through 1 of the ‘Toughest’ Periods of His Life He said the audience was much more excited to see her than they were to see him.“Literally 40,000 were jumping up and down,” he said.

“I mean, that’s probably what it’s like at real concerts, but I was like ‘Whoa. What’s going on?’ People were so excited to see her.”.
