REEL Cinema Blackburn is celebrating after being nominated for the Best Family Indoor Entertainment award in Lancashire.

The independent eight-screen cinema opened in May 2021 in the former Waves building in Nab Lane in the town centre. Since then, the team has worked to create a welcoming and accessible experience for all ages, including baby-friendly screenings in morning and afternoon showings. Tajammal Shah, manager of REEL Blackburn, said: “We’re so excited to have been nominated for the Best Family Indoor Entertainment award, it really does mean the world to us.

“As a family-owned, independent cinema, we’ve worked hard to build a place that’s more than just a screen, somewhere families can come together, make memories, and enjoy the magic of cinema. “Our amazing team goes above and beyond every day to make REEL Blackburn the go-to spot to watch a film, and this nomination feels like a wonderful recognition of that. "Thank you to everyone who got us this far.

It also supports local causes by partnering with organisations like Blackburn Foodbank and One Voice through collections, fundraising, and events. REEL Cinemas is the UK’s leading nationwide independent cinema chain with sites across England and Wales, priding itself on a warm welcome and affordable prices.

The group has a mission to bring cinema to underserved communities through smaller miniplexes, five to six-screen venues in towns often overlooked by larger chains. The Blackburn site combines modern accessibility with a nod to classic cinema design through an art deco-style interior. Tajammal added: “Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support us.

"There’s so much more to come, and we can’t wait to share it all.” Over the coming days each finalist in the Lancashire Telegraph Best Family Indoor Entertainment Venue competition will be profiled, showing why each one would be a deserving winner. Voting slips are available in newspapers over the coming two weeks, with the winner announced later this month.
