The mastermind behind Black Mirror has teased what's in store for fans with the new series landing on Netflix . The show, which takes cues from The Twilight Zone, is known for its dark and often dystopian take on the future. Fans are excited for the release of the latest episodes , which landed on the streaming platform today.
Ahead of the much-anticipated return, Charlie Brooker, alongside actress Emma Corrin, appeared on The One Show, a BBC program, yesterday to offer a sneak peek into the seventh instalment of the series. Speaking to hosts Alex Scott and Clara Amfo, Charlie shared insights into the upcoming season, "In a way this is kind of a back to basics season of Black Mirror. We've got new weird and wonderful ways to sort of mess our characters up.
" He also hinted at a shift in tone, saying, "It's not all completely bleak this season, so we're mixing it up a little bit, so that'll be a surprise to some viewers." Charlie continued to pique interest by revealing, "We've got a lot of weird and wonderful stories. "We've got stories where people enter old films, we've got a story where people enter old photographs, literally walk inside polaroid's.
And we've got subjects we've never tackled before, so hopefully people will enjoy this or at least tolerate it." Emma Corrin, known for her role in The Crown, is set to appear in an episode titled Hotel Reverie, where she stars alongside Barbie's Issa Rae as A-list actors in a reimagining of a classic 1940s Hollywood movie. "It's Black Mirror in all the ways you'd expect with delving into questions about AI and technology.
In this episode, that kind of serves to explore a love story and put that at the centre," Emma said. "I think it'll make people really nostalgic for those classic 1940s films like Brief Encounter and Casablanca that we love." Charlie revealed that the episode started off as a horror concept, but it naturally transitioned into a romance narrative, reports the Mirror .
The upcoming series doesn't skimp on star power, showcasing the likes of Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who, Harriet Walter known from Killing Eve, and Rashida Jones of Parks and Recreation fame, who made her mark by co-writing the acclaimed Nosedive episode from season three. Additionally, the series is loaded with celebrated names including Paul Giamatti of The Holdovers, Chris O'Dowd from Bridesmaids, Westworld's Jimmi Simpson, and Tracee Ellis Ross.
