PURI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) concluded a two-day intensive training camp in Puri on Sunday, urging its cadre to shed internal factionalism and embrace grassroots activism in the run-up to the elections. Designed as a strategic push to strengthen the party’s organisational base in Odisha, the camp featured structured sessions led by senior BJP leaders, including B.L.
Santosh, national general secretary (organisation), joint general secretary B. Satish, and general secretary Sunil Bansal. The focus remained firmly on enhancing grassroots engagement and effectively communicating government welfare schemes to the public.
The final day of the conclave saw four classroom-style sessions attended by BJP MLAs, MPs, and district-level functionaries. Party insiders described the training as rigorous and sharply focused, reflecting the central leadership’s determination to bolster the BJP’s eastern footprint. On Saturday, BJP national president J.
P. Nadda delivered a candid keynote address, setting the tone for the camp. In a no-holds-barred briefing, he warned against complacency, ego-driven politics, and groupism within party ranks.
“Don’t wear your position as a badge of ego. Whether you’re an MLA, MP, or minister—first develop your personality. Step away from groupism,” Nadda said during his hour-long address.
He also laid out a 14-point action plan aimed at reconnecting elected representatives with the grassroots. Key directives included spending at least 30 minutes regularly at Anganwadi centres and primary healthcare facilities, fostering direct engagement with Dalit families, and building cooperative ties with government officials to improve coordination between governance and party work. Nadda stressed that leadership should be measured not by title, but by on-ground commitment and responsiveness to public needs.
As the camp concluded, party strategists expressed hope that the training would re-energise the Odisha unit and prepare it for a more people-centric campaign. With the state increasingly seen as a key battleground in the BJP’s national expansion plan, the leadership is banking on disciplined cadre and grassroots outreach to drive its electoral push..
