1 2 3 4 SLUG: CONTRACTOR'S DEATH Kalaburagi: BJP on Saturday staged a protest in Kalaburagi, demanding resignation of RDPR and IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge over the suicide of civil contractor Sachin Panchal. The party also demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for Panchal's family. The Congress employed a Gandhian approach to counter the opposition by offering refreshments, including tea, coffee, biscuits, buttermilk and tender coconut water, to the demonstrators near Kharge's residence.
Led by R Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the protesters gathered at Jagat Circle. Tight security was deployed, and police personnel were stationed outside the minister's residence to prevent any untoward incident as the BJP planned to lay siege to the location. Labelling it an ‘SS government' (supari and suicide), Ashoka said: "Eshwarappa resigned without any wrongdoing.
Why is Priyank Kharge being shielded? This commission-driven govt is leading contractors to suicide while citizens suffer." Narayanaswamy questioned Kharge's response to their protest. "We are here seeking justice, but Priyank Kharge offers tea and water instead.
While he denies his name being in the suicide note, I have a copy where Sachin explicitly mentions him," he alleged. Priyank Kharge dismissed the BJP's demands, stating, "Neither I nor the govt will bow to such pressure tactics. There are numerous cases against BJP leaders, including a Pocso case against BS Yediyurappa.
Justice should be impartial." Sachin Panchal, a Bidar-based contractor, reportedly died by suicide on Dec 26 by jumping in front of a train. In his suicide note, he accused Kharge's aide, Raju Kapanur, of coercion and death threats over Rs 1 crore.
Kapanur has denied the allegations..
