New Delhi: BJP conducted a membership drive in 252 slum clusters under the leadership of Delhi party president Virendra Sachdeva and Union minister Harsh Malhotra as part of a slum expansion campaign held every Sunday. Sachdeva said people in slum clusters were enthusiastically becoming party members because they were disappointed with Kejriwal's govt. "People.

.. have realised that only BJP can connect their clusters with development," he said.

Malhotra conducted the membership drive at Indira Camp and Patparganj, along with party workers, and said: "Slumdwellers also dream of having clean homes today and understand that this dream will only come true when BJP comes to power in Delhi and implements the Prime Minister's housing scheme. Therefore, they are enthusiastically joining BJP." BJP functionary Alka Gurjar inducted new members into the party in Shastri Market and nearby settlements near Vasant Vihar.

She said poor women were attracted to BJP because they want to provide a good future to their children, and Kejriwal govt had "disappointed" them. Many senior BJP leaders, including organisational general secretary Pavan Rana, MP Bansuri Swaraj, and party workers, were present. Former Union minister Smriti Irani on Sunday began her three-day organisational visit as part of the BJP's membership campaign.

Irani addressed BJP workers in Shahdara, Karol Bagh and New Delhi, where she discussed key points to communicate with people during the household membership campaign, a statement of the Delhi BJP said. "Today, after participating in BJP's national membership campaign, I am satisfied to see the extensive welfare work being done for the poor across the country by BJP govt," Irani said. AAP said, "As the elections approach, BJP may put on a grand ‘drama,' but the people of Delhi remain unwavering in their support for Arvind Kejriwal, their son and brother.

" "Arvind Kejriwal, who gave up his IRS job, lived in slums and deeply understood the struggles of the economically disadvantaged sections. When he first became chief minister, he ensured water pipelines were laid in all the 1,800 unauthorised colonies. Before his leadership, these colonies did not even have access to basic essentials such as water," the party said.
