Bison women's soccer breaks open game in 2nd half against USD

North Dakota State scores three goals after the break in win over Coyotes on Sunday.

FARGO — The North Dakota State women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half and defeated South Dakota 4-2 on Sunday in a Summit League game at Dacotah Field. NDSU's Gabrielle Garrett scored the game's first goal in the 11th minute on an assist from Devon Kavanagh and the Bison led 1-0 at halftime. But NDSU's Morgan Russmann scored on a penalty kick just 1:37 into the second half.

After USD's Ashby Johnston halved the lead with a goal at 48:23, NDSU's Hannah Arnold made it 3-1 with a goal at 57:33 on an assist from Brooklyn Bordson. Russmann scored her second goal of the game and ninth of the season at 61:12 on assists from Sidney Armstrong and Olivia Watson. USD's Sam Luft scored unassisted at 79:10 to close out the scoring.



The Bison maintained their lead in the Summit League standings at 5-1-1 and they are 9-5-3 overall. They close out the regular season hosting St. Thomas at 1 p.
