Hanukkah falls really late this year, beginning on Dec. 25 and extending until Jan. 2 — only two days earlier than the absolute last date it can end, according to the vagaries of the Hebrew calendar and lunar months.

But that’s OK; it only means that your friends at Bill’s Sandwich Palace have had more time to plan their Hanukkah offerings for this year. Bill’s proprietor Aaron Clemins has come up with a lunch-centric menu in collaboration with friends Matt Leff, Michael Wolf and the beloved former Sweet 16th Bakery owner Ellen Einstein, whose soul still permeates her former home at 311 N. 16th St.

in East Nashville. On Sunday, Dec. 15, the whole crew will come together to offer up a menu of fun takes on holiday classics, plus a few of the mo st popular sandwiches from Bill’s regular menu.

From 11 a. m. until 3 p.

m., patrons can celebrate Hanukkah a little early with dishes such as Danny’s Dog, an overdressed all-beef wiener, Bubbe’s Brisket accented with some tangy kimchi, and the Challah at Ya Boi, featuring smoked trout salad on a garlic butter roll. Baller Soup will give you a warm hug of chicken soup with ricotta dumplings, and potato latkes are the perfect side dish for anything on the menu.

Aaron’s wife Christen has come up with two types of rugelach for the event — your choice between chocolate or apricot/walnut — and Wolf is contributing an olive oil-rich Uncle Buck Citrus Cake. The only problem is that the pop-up event is for only one day, so you’ll have to find a way to make it last as long as that Maccabean lamp. Good thing sandwiches freeze well!.
