NASHUA -- Shane Totman, the 30-year-old Nashua man charged with assaulting a woman in Mine Falls Park last month, is back in jail following his arrest Thursday on eight new charges, including five for possession of child sexual-abuse images and two counts of bestiality. SHANE TOTMAN Totman, who told police at the time of his October arrest on a simple assault charge that he lived in the basement of his parents' home on Blossom Street, has since been held on preventive detention, which remained in effect following his brief video arraignment Friday in Nashua district court. He is also charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug, subsequent offense.

The sexual-abuse image and drug charges are all Class A felonies. The bestiality charges are Class A misdemeanors. He also faces one count of simple assault, a Class A misdemeanor, from his October arrest.

Police said in their reports that detectives were called in to investigate the circumstances of the alleged Mine Falls Park assaults, which were brought to the attention of police by several women who reported being struck from behind or grabbed as they passed by a man on an electric scooter, who was later identified as Totman. Detectives then obtained warrants to search for evidence at Totman's residence. Police reports state that analysis of electronic devices found at the residence by the department's Computer Forensic Unit and the state Crimes Against Children Unit discovered videos of young children, including infants, engaging in various sex acts with adults.

They also found a quantity of a substance believed to be psilocybin mushrooms in Totman's bedroom. Police said Totman admitted the mushrooms were his, police said. Also located during the forensic searches of Totman's electronic devices were the two videos of a man engaging in sex with a black pit bull, which prompted detectives to file the bestiality charges.

In a post-arrest interview with detectives, police said Totman "took ownership of the video on his cellphone." In relation to the child sexual abuse images, police said Totman compiled notes "that appears to be Shane's manifesto about being attracted to young girls." Meanwhile, Totman is next due in court at 10:15 a.

m. on Nov. 20 for a probable cause hearing.
