Chennai: A 38-year-old biker died after a carelessly opened car door knocked him under the wheels of a truck near Maduravoyal on Wednesday night. The victim, Saravanan, 38, of Adayalampet in Maduravoyal, was a van driver. He usually parked his van at Thiruverkadu and took his bike home.
On Wednesday night, he was riding towards Thiruverkadu-Velapanchavadi road. When he reached Perumal Aragarm, a man opened the door of a car parked by the roadside. Saravanan, who failed to notice this, banged against the door, fell off his bike, and came under the wheel of a truck that was following him.
The biker suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead at a private hospital. The body was sent for postmortem to the Royapettah govt hospital. Passers-by told police that the car driver had opened the door without checking for traffic.
Police have detained car driver Ramamoorthy and truck driver Marimuthu in connection with the case. An investigation is underway..
