FAST food chain Big Rooster has set its sights on integrating small to medium enterprises (SMEs) into its franchise. Despite suffering K7 million in losses in the Black Wednesday, January 10 riots last year, Big Rooster Managing Director Salim Chamadia in a statement captured that empowering local SMEs is an important step in the of the success and growth of the company going forward. “As part of our long-term vision, we are undertaking a structured succession and growth plan to ensure continuity, sustainability, and future expansion.

Over the next five years, our primary objective is to stabilise and strengthen the business by consolidating operations, enhancing customer experience, upgrading our store infrastructure, and streamlining supply chain logistics. This phase will focus on building a solid foundation in preparation for broader franchising. “Once market conditions improve—particularly in terms of economic stability and the rise of capable SME operators—we intend to gradually franchise select outlets to local entrepreneurs under a strict quality and training framework,” he said.

The company received a cheque of K1 million from the national government just last Friday to assist with its rebuilding efforts which Mr Chamadia extended gratitude to the government whilst calling for a fast tracking of government assistance to the affected businesses of the Black Wednesday tragedy. “Big Rooster PNG is a proudly Papua New Guinean-owned, multi-store fast-food business with deep roots in the local market and strong brand recognition. This (the government support) will not only support our succession plan but also contribute meaningfully to the local economy through SME empowerment, skills development, and job creation,” he said.
