Manchester United reporter The Old Trafford task force panel will deliver their final recommendation for the future of Manchester United’s historic stadium by the end of the year. A report from The Athletic claims an 'internal document' has outlined a deadline of December 31 for the task force to deliver their final recommendations for the project before United will then make their own decision on how to proceed. The Old Trafford task force was assembled earlier this year with the objective of exploring all viable options for United's home ground, including the possibility of building a new 100,000-seater stadium at a cost of £2billion. Lord Sebatian Coe is leading the taskforce alongside Gary Neville, Andy Burnham , as well as representatives from Trafford council , United’s Fans’ Advisory Board and the two Manchester universities, among others. The combined plans also see a regeneration of local districts Old Trafford, Wharfside, Salford Quays and MediaCity.

Last week it was revealed United, Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority were joining forces to integrate the redevelopment of the stadium into wider plans for the local area, with a new advisory team, led by an independent director, set to work alongside the task force. The earlier report also revealed architectural firm Foster and Partners are set to be appointed as lead masterplanners of the stadium district project, and will cover the club-owned land on the current Old Trafford site, but not the design of the actual stadium itself. Foster and Partners were also appointed to lead the £50million redevelopment of United’s training ground earlier this year.

Once a final recommendation is made to the club and they decide what they want to do with Old Trafford, a separate process for the design of the new or redeveloped stadium will begin.
