BIC has stated that despite the macroeconomic challenges in the country, the company is planning new investments to expand its manufacturing footprint and distribution network in the country. Reiterating its commitment to delivering quality services and products despite the struggling state of the economy, the firm insisted that the appointment of a new general manager, Anthony Amahwe, would steer the firm’s operations in Nigeria positively. Initially operating as a distributor-only business in Nigeria, with its headquarters in France, the company formally transformed into a subsidiary business in 2019.
It stated that it is working closely with its Horizon plan launched in 2020, which aims at growing the business sustainably and delivering more value to its local stakeholders. The plan is expected to run through 2025. Going on to outline the brand’s strategic direction under his leadership, Amahwe emphasised that the company has created over 500 jobs over the last five years and invested massively in the economy.
He added that the company has also supported thousands of students through their community-driven initiatives. He went on to reveal that it has also collaborated with the ministries of education in the communities and hubs it operates in, particularly Lagos and Ogun states. He added that the Company’s sustainable development programme, ‘Writing the Future Together’, initiative aims to deliver and improve the learning conditions of 250 million students globally by the end of 2025.
He added that the BIC community-driven initiatives, education support and partnership programmes within the education sector are geared towards improving and supporting learning conditions for students in Nigeria, across different regions and communities in the country. Amahwe also noted that the firm has also made deliberate efforts to curtail counterfeit products in the market, adding that he aims to deliver seamlessly, adopting tactics to improve the firm’s products and services. Additionally, senior plant manager, Peter Ajakaiye, said the team has made huge growth and progress in their distribution network across Nigeria.
With its manufacturing facility in Shagamu, Ogun State, he said 90 per cent of their raw materials needs are locally sourced as the company pledges full support to the ‘buy Nigeria, grow Nigeria’ agenda of the government. “We are committed to continue to drive the growth of the Nigerian economy as the macroeconomic situation of Nigeria keeps changing. The dynamics will keep altering as we are in a volatile environment, but we will remain here, growing in Nigeria and helping the economy grow and will continue to improve the country from a manufacturing and distribution perspective,” he said.
