'Bhau gang since 2020': Gangsters open fire in Delhi's Naraina car showroom

Armed assailants fire indiscriminately at a car showroom in Naraina NEW DELHI: Making a mockery of law and order in the national capital, three armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire at a car showroom in west Delhi's Naraina on Friday evening. Over 25 rounds were fired, leaving bystanders, customers and staffers running for cover. Miraculously, nobody was killed or injured in the brazen shooting, which was captured on multiple CCTV cameras.

Initial investigation suggests that the incident was linked to an extortion racket, probably involving gangster Himanshu Bhau . According to sources, assailants dropped a slip demanding money. The note ended with "Bhau Gang Since 2020" signature.



Sources said Bhau had demanded Rs 5 crore as protection money , but police didn't confirm it officially. A probe has been launched to identify and arrest the shooters. Around 7.

30pm, three men arrived on a motorcycle, entered the showroom, whipped out pistols and immediately opened fire, shooting multiple rounds, both inside and outside the building. A senior officer said the owner had received some missed calls and messages, which police are investigating. The attack has yet again raised concerns about the safety and security of businesses and residents in the area, sparking calls for increased police presence and effective measures to combat crime. Delhi has seen a sharp surge in extortion incidents in recent months, with several cases reported across the city. In May, two men opened fire at a car showroom in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar , injuring at least four people. The assailants had handed an extortion note to its employee before the firing.

In July, two men fired at the house of a property dealer in Kabir Nagar, near Welcome, demanding Rs 10 lakh. Just last month, a car dealer from southeast Delhi was targeted by extortionists, receiving repeated calls from a Portuguese phone number demanding Rs 50 lakh. A car dealer in west Delhi also received an extortion call from Europe-based Bhau, demanding Rs 2 crore.

Police say they have been taking steps to curb such activities, including the arrests of people involved in extortion cases. The cops have assured increased vigilance and action against those involved in such crimes, aiming to restore public confidence in the law enforcement agencies. DCP Vichitra Veer said an FIR had been registered.

The police brass has asked to seize the CCTV footage and not to release it to the press. Crime Branch and Special Cell are also looking into the incident. Bhau had recently claimed responsibility for the sensational shooting at Burger King in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden.

Sources said Bhau, who has an Interpol Red Corner notice issued against him, has supposedly reached the US using the donkey route. He was earlier in Portugal..
