Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea commence 4G densification nationwide: Frog Cellsat

NEW DELHI: Frog Cellsat is supplying 4G equipment to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea as the private sector telecom operators have started densifying their networks nationwide, said a senior executive of the homegrown telecom gear maker. “Airtel has recently concluded a very large RFP (request for proposal) for 4G expansion. Similarly, Vi has also concluded an RFP recently, which is mostly for 4G.

So we are supplying 4G equipment to Airtel and Vi in all circles. 4G is proving to be more reliable for subscribers and operators are also not actively focusing on 5G,” Konark Trivedi , MD and CEO of Frog Cellsat, told ETTelecom in an interview. He declined to comment on whether the company has won deals from the telcos as part of their recently concluded RFP. "We keep getting orders the entire year and keep supplying continuously. It is a routine process.

" Airtel, the major customer of the company, contributed as much as 70% to Frog Cellsat's revenue in the fiscal year 2023-24. Airtel's contribution, however, may fall to 55% in the fiscal year 2025-26 as the vendor has been winning big-ticket deals to deploy its solutions, such as distributed antenna systems (DAS), at major metro stations and airports, the chief executive said. “Growth has happened from other customers.

This (Airtel’s) ratio might go down to about 55% but they will remain as our largest customer,” Trivedi said, adding that Vodafone Idea’s financial turmoils have resulted in a “significant reduction” in volumes. “Once, Airtel and Vodafone Idea were our equal-sized customers. But that changed.

“Today, nearly 1.03 billion people are covered with around 77% of 4G coverage. As of now, we want to go from this 77% to at least 90%,” Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vi, told ETTelecom in an interview previously, adding that the telecom operator would be able to achieve the target by June 2025.
