Government data has ranked some of the county's best secondary schools using a 'progress eight' score calculated after taking a range of factors into account. This rating is designed to show how much progress pupils make during the time they are in secondary school, from the end of key stage two to the end of key stage four, in comparison to other children across the UK. It is based on results in up to eight qualifications including English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography, and languages.
Based off this progress score, Wiltshire's two best performing schools are both based in Salisbury, but schools from around the county feature in the top 10. The Department for Education added that progress scores are not published for independent schools and independent special schools.
