Hyundai Creta EV is set for an early 2025 launch and will enter a competitive midsize electric SUV segment with several new entrants expected next year Hyundai’s initial foray into India’s electric vehicle market began with the Kona Electric, which was discontinued a while ago. The automaker, currently the second-largest car producer in India, now offers the well-received Ioniq 5. Early next year, Hyundai will expand its electric lineup with a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) based on the popular Creta midsize SUV.

The company is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India over the next two to three years, targeting various price segments with a mix of locally produced and globally sourced models. As outlined in preliminary IPO documents submitted to SEBI, the company plans to roll out four new eco-friendly vehicles, underscoring its commitment to growing its EV portfolio in the Indian market. Hyundai aims to bolster the price competitiveness of its upcoming electric vehicles by focusing on local production of core components including battery cells, battery packs, power electronics and drivetrains.



By establishing a domestic supply chain, Hyundai seeks to streamline costs and enhance its competitive advantage in the rapidly growing Indian EV market. To support this shift, Hyundai has leased part of its Tamil Nadu plant to Mobis, a Hyundai Motor Company subsidiary, for assembling EV batteries.

This move aims to supply Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) with locally assembled battery packs, helping to lower import costs and streamline production. Hyundai Motor Group has joined hands with Exide Energy to bolster local battery production, advancing its localization strategy in India to qualify for production-linked incentive (PLI) subsidies.

Hyundai is also planning a shift to a dedicated EV platform to enhance cost efficiency in the years ahead with potential localization of the flexible E-GMP platform to further reduce costs.
