At the 2025 Coachella music festival , Bernie Sanders delivered a powerful message to President Donald Trump and the youth of America. Taking the stage at the Outdoor Theatre before introducing singer Clairo, the Vermont senator addressed the challenges facing the country. "This country faces some very difficult challenges," he declared.
"And the future of what happens to America is dependent on your generation." Bernie urged the crowd not to turn a blind eye to current issues: "Now you can turn away, and you could ignore what goes on - but if you do that, you do it at your own peril," he warned. "We need you to stand up to fight for justice.
" Bernie called for action, emphasizing the importance of fighting for various forms of justice. As he shifted his speech towards President Donald Trump, the audience's boos interrupted him, prompting Sanders to respond with two words: "I agree." He criticized Trump's stance on climate change, saying, "[Trump] thinks that climate change is a hoax," and stressed the urgency of standing up to the fossil fuel industry.
Sanders also highlighted the political efforts to undermine women's reproductive rights and the economic system favoring the wealthy. "All over this country..
.politicians are trying to take away a woman's right to control her own body," Bernie said. "We need you to stand up and fight for women's rights.
We have an economy today that is working very well for the billionaire class but not for working families," he continued. Bernie added that the help of American citizens was "needed" to "create an economy" that would work for everyone, not just those at the top. "We need you to help us, to create an economy that works well for everybody, not just the one percent.
We have a health care system that is broken, we are the only major country not guaranteeing healthcare to all people," he said, highlighting the urgency for reforms. He went on: "We need you to stand up to the insurance companies and the drug companies that health care is a human right," Bernie wasn't just there to introduce the music. "I'm here to introduce Clairo not just because they are a great band," Bernie mentioned.
He closed his speech emphasizing activism in entertainment: "I'm here because Clairo has used her prominence to fight for women's right to try to end the terrible brutal war in Gaza where thousands of women and children are being killed."
