FITCHBURG —The St. Bernard’s girls’ soccer team got its first win back on the young season on Monday afternoon thanks to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Trivium School at the Bernardian Bowl. The Bernardians are 1-3 overall, while the Eagles fall to 1-1 on the season.

“The girls played really well today. We have had a slow start to the season but they’ve been working harder than ever and they’re looking to turn it around. I feel they are hitting that point,” St.

Bernard’s head coach Angela Pallotta said. “When they make a mistake, they are learning from them and they’re playing together as a team. I was really happy with what I saw today.

” The Bernardians spread out their scoring with four different players registering goals in the victory. Senior captain Amanda Roy paced the winners with three goals, while teammate Arianna Hirtle added a pair of goals. Adianna Mancuso and Grace Comeau each scored single goals for St.

Bernard’s. Leading the way for Trivium was Anna Dalsass, who netted both goals for the Eagles. The hosts did most of their damage in the first half, specifically in the first 25 minutes as St.

Bernard’s scored six goals in that span and enjoyed a 6-2 halftime lead. The Bernardians added one more score in the 47th minute of the match to cap the scoring. Bernardians senior goalie Evie Lasage was solid in net for St.

Bernard’s, stopping four of the six shots she faced. Trivium goalie Sophia Forrester played well in the defeat as she made eight saves for the Eagles on Monday afternoon. “Evie is a hard worker.

This is her first year with us but she did play for her town when she was in middle school,” said Pallotta. “She did a great job for us today in net.” The Bernardians have little time to savor the victory as they return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they headto Baldwinville to visit Narragansett Regional.

“We don’t have a lot of time to enjoy this one,” said Pallotta. “It’s back to work and back to the office tomorrow on the road against Narragansett and then we host Leominster on Friday.” For Pallotta, who is now in her third year at the head of the Bernardians bench, her team is led by senior captanins Ashley Kenney and Roy and junior captains Isabelle Comeau and Mia Rendon.

As for the Eagles, they will look to bounce back and return to the win column on Wednesday when they travel to Devens to visit Parker Charter School..
