A group of men allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old woman outside a mosque in Bengaluru after her husband filed a complaint against her at a local mosque over a domestic dispute. The incident occurred when the victim was summoned to the Jama Masjid in Tavarekere on the afternoon of April 9 over a complaint lodged by her husband.

The video of the incident captured a group of men attacking her with sticks, pipes, and clubs, and even attempting to strike her with stones, allegedly with the intent to kill. What Incited The Mob? In her complaint, the victim, Shabina Banu, a domestic worker, stated that her relative Nasreen visited her on April 7, and during that time, a man named Fayaz also came to her house.
The trio went for a short outing at a hill in Bukkambudi and returned later in the evening. Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned home and found her with Nasreen and Fayaz at the house, which reportedly made him upset and angry. Later, Shameer moved the Jama Masjid in Bengaluru’s Tavarekere and complained against his wife, her relative Nasreen and the man, Fayaz.
The mosque committee summoned them all on April 9. Subsequently, the three of them visited the mosque, where the alleged attack took place. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Niyaz (32) – a driver, Mohammad Gauspeer (45) – a scrap dealer, Chand Basha (35) – a sugarcane juice vendor, Dastagir (24) – a bike mechanic, Rasool T R (42) a fisherman at Bukkambudi Lake, and Inayat Ullah (51) – a local resident.
Shabina’s formal complaint was lodged on April 11 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A special investigation team, headed by Inspector Ravo and guided by Davangere SP Uma Prashant, along with Additional SPs Santosh Vijay Kumar and Manjunath, and Channagiri ASP Sam Varghese, was formed. The accused were quickly located and arrested.
