With the Smooch Cabs app, couples can book a cab not for reaching a destination but for spending uninterrupted private time while being driven around the city. Bengaluru is known for its never-ending traffic jams, with frustrated commuters often venting their anger on social media. But now, amidst the daily chaos, a startup has introduced ‘Smooch Cabs’—a unique private cab service exclusively for couples who want some ‘quality time’ on the go.
Unlike Ola, Uber, or Rapido, Smooch Cabs doesn’t focus on reaching a destination. Instead, these taxis take couples on long, uninterrupted rides, allowing them to spend quality time together. Smooch Cabs are specially designed to ensure privacy, featuring tinted windows and a strict ‘Do Not Disturb’ policy.
Some drivers have even requested noise-canceling headphones to block out any ‘distractions’ inside the cab. However, while passengers enjoy their privacy, other drivers on the road are left frustrated with vehicles that seem to stall in peak traffic hours. Since its launch, the service has gained popularity among couples looking for an escape from moral policing.
However, traffic police have raised concerns, noting that some cars remain stationary during peak hours. “Traffic here usually moves slowly, but now some cars just refuse to move," an officer remarked, as per DNA India. Furthermore, the trend has even inspired auto-rickshaw drivers to offer ‘privacy rides’ for singles who feel left out.
But not everyone is pleased with this concept. Many argue that it goes against Indian cultural values, with some even calling for a ban on the service. Despite the controversy, Smooch Cabs seems to be expanding, with pre-bookings already happening in Delhi and Mumbai.
