Bench Warrant for Komaisavai

Police prosecutor, Sharmila Lata, who appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou informed the court that all their witnesses were present, but the accused person was not.

The Suva Magistrate’s Court has issued a bench warrant against the former Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Nasinu constituency vice-president, Isikeli Komaisavai, after he failed to appear for his hearing on Thursday. Komaisavai, 52, is charged with one count of causing harm by posting electronic communication. It is alleged that on February 10, 2021, in Suva, Komaisavai commented on Facebook , calling for the then Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to be killed, adding that he would be killed.

Police prosecutor, Sharmila Lata, who appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou informed the court that all their witnesses were present, but the accused person was not. She made a verbal application in court to have the trial continue in absentia, which the court granted. Among the State prosecution witnesses was Mr Sayed-Khaiyum who was summoned to testify against Komaisavai.
