Thousands of bottles of a popular liquid Benadryl allergy product are being recalled because they lack child-resistant packaging that can help prevent poisoning, the U.S. announced on March 20.
Drugmaker Arsell Inc., of Brooklyn, New York, issued a voluntary recall of about 2,300 units of Benadryl Liquid Elixir 100 mL bottles, which contains diphenhydramine, an antihistamine that must be sold in child-resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, the CPSC said. The products were sold on Amazon from July 2023 through October 2024.

The affected Benadryl Liquid Elixir products contain 100 mL of liquid Benadryl and were sold online at Amazon.com from July 2023 through October 2024 Each unit was sold in a round dark plastic bottle with a pink and white label on the front with the name Benadryl in blue text. The units came packaged in a pink and white paper box with the word Benadryl written in blue text.
The box featured a white label on the bottom with the following code written in black text: X003VRIGUL. The Benadryl Liquid Elixir 100 mL bottles sold on Amazon.com are being recalled because they lack the proper child-resistant packaging that can help prevent children from being poisoned, the CPSC said.
The CSPC is asking consumers to immediately dispose of the bottles of liquid Benadryl and to contact Arsell to receive a full refund.
