Ben Affleck has revealed his favorite films along with what he believes is the 'most underrated movie'. The actor is currently set to appear in an unexpected but anticipated sequel The Accountant 2. He is reprising his role from the first instalment of the action thriller as Christian Wolff who has a talent for solving complex problems.
When an old acquaintance of his is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. Together they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.
Ahead of the new film's release, the star of Batman v Superman and Gone Girl made an appearance in the Guest Selects YouTube series for Alama Drafthouse. These videos ask some of the biggest names in Hollywood for the titles that have inspired them throughout their career. Affleck begins explaining his choices however, by claiming that he believes that anyone could ever definitely name five titles that are their all-time favourite movies as his are changing all the time.
He adds that his selections primarily include what he's seen lately and what have inspired him making The Accountant 2. Starting off, Affleck's most recent pick is an Oscar and BAFTA winning title. He says: "I thought that Conclave was a really great movie with wonderful acting and directing and cinematography and I didn't think that I would find the story of how they elect the next pope to be particularly compelling but I actually found it tense and gripping and and kind of masterfully executed.
" Affleck goes on to suggest that Accountant 2 is "a sort of two-hander action comedy drama movie" and his favourite in that genre is Midnight Run. He explains: "It's a magnificent movie. It's brilliant and funny and no one has ever been better than they were in that movie.
Unfortunately it came out against Die Hard, same weekend. Obviously things panned out for Die Hard but Midnight Run remains in my view like the perfect example of how you execute a movie like this that's commercial and funny and entertaining and broad but specific and about people that I really care about. I can't say enough good things about Midnight Run.
You you should just see it if you if you like this genre. If you like movies." Next up was another title Affleck believes doesn't get as much love as it deserves.
"I think Seven is probably one of the great underrated masterpieces. I think people don't include it sometimes in the lists they make of great movies because it's a serial killer movie and it's people go it's like horror It's actually I think one of the best constructed movies ever made. The screenplay, the execution, the performances, they all work beautifully in concert with one another.
The acting is great. The plot and the tension. The reveal point has stayed with us ever since.
" Good news for film fans is that those in the US can stream Seven, or Se7en for free. It is currently available on Tubi but is due to be removed from the service in less than a month. Affleck had room for another film starring Brad Pitt.
He adds: " Tree of Life is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Terrence Malik is a an incredible director." Other films recommended are The Usual Suspects, Jaws, Chinatown and There Will Be Blood.
The producers behind the camera stop Affleck to tell him he's already hit seven titles. to which the actor quips with a smile: "OK, I could keep going." Ben Affleck's favourite films in full (but in no particular order): Conclave Midnight Run Seven The Usual Suspects The Tree of Life Jaws Chinatown There Will Be Blood Seven is streaming on Tubi and Midnight Run is streaming on Amazon Prime.
