Hamish McHaggis, written by Aberlady resident and award-winning children's author Linda Strachan, will embark on a tour of some of Scotland's most beautiful and historic locations from April to October. The tour will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the bestselling series. The tour kicks off with a family day at Glamis Castle on April 26, followed by appearances at the Boswell Book Festival on May 11 and The Falkirk Wheel on June 14.
Further dates are yet to be announced. The series, known worldwide, is a favourite among children and families. Linda has published more than 70 books for all ages and said: "I love talking about books and creative writing.
"Many Scottish schools have found the stories of Hamish McHaggis and his animal friends a great resource with a wide range of fascinating fun facts about Scotland, Scottish history and Scots words and phrases. "It’s exciting to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hamish McHaggis series. "Hamish is a very special character and has always been a favourite.
"It’s lovely to discover new fans who have taken Hamish to their hearts and I’m looking forward to revisiting some of these wonderful places all around Scotland where the books are set and sharing the stories with children and their families." The tour will see Linda visiting many of the castles and landmarks featured in the book series, as well as local bookshops and events and festivals. Fans of Hamish, both young and old, will have the chance to participate in activities, attend Hamish birthday parties, have their books signed and may even get the opportunity to meet Hamish himself.
Children will be encouraged to print their own Hamish McHaggis Passport, available to download free of charge from the new website. Free teacher resource materials are also available to download from Linda's website..
