Bellevue Literary Press to Release Jerome Charyn’s ‘Maria La Divina’

Bellevue Literary Press is set to release “Maria La Divina,” a novel that explores the story of the famed opera star Maria Callas.The work is written by Jerome Charyn, who has published over 60 books and graphic novels about such icons as Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Emily Dickinson, Ernest Hemingway, Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe, J.D.

Salinger, and Rita Hayworth.“I fell in love with Maria Callas when I saw a documentary about her, and I threw myself into the world of opera,” Charyn said per an official press release. “This is the story of a poor girl with even poorer eyesight who wanted to become a diva and became the greatest one.



”Maria Callas was at the forefront of culture throughout the past year in honor of her centennial. She was featured in Pablo Larraín’s Oscar-nominated film “Maria” and was the topic of numerous books. Several opera companies tailored productions to honor “La Divina.
