Read More Let’s be honest, season 2 of The Last of Us has everyone glued to their screens. And if you’ve played the game, chances are you’ve been waiting for that moment: Ellie and Dina’s first kiss. Turns out, Bella Ramsey, who brings Ellie to life on screen, was just as swept up by it all as the rest of us.

In a recent chat, Bella opened up about filming one of the game’s most anticipated scenes. And no, this wasn’t just another scripted kiss – it was the moment Ellie lets her guard down with Dina, played by none other than Isabela Merced. For those not fully caught up, Dina makes her debut in episode one.

It’s New Year’s Eve in Jackson and the town gathers in a quaint little church to ring in the new year. That’s when Ellie and Dina find themselves on the dance floor together. And then it happens—the kiss.

Soft, surprising, and strikingly similar to how the scene takes place in the original game. Bella, reflecting on the moment her character shares that kiss, explained to Variety, “Ellie thinks that Dina is straight and in a relationship with Jesse," adding that Ellie’s terrified of her feelings. The idea of damaging a friendship that matters so much? That’s what’s really eating at her.

She goes deeper: “There’s definitely a self-protection thing of needing to know how Dina felt before she could make any sort of a move. She’s still confused by it, even when Dina does start making a move on Ellie." That hesitation? That mix of longing and uncertainty? It’s all there in Bella’s performance.

So when Dina leans in and kisses Ellie, the internal dialogue couldn’t be more real. As Bella put it, her character is thinking, “Is this actually happening?" Now streaming on Max, The Last of Us season 2 isn’t just staying true to the source— it’s giving fans a heartfelt, human story, beat for beat. And with moments like this one? It’s safe to say the emotional bar has been raised.
