Scheduled upgrades to Bell's wireless network in Whitehorse may cause interruptions between Oct. 22 and Oct. 26, according to a Bell Mobility spokesperson.

In a notice shared with the on Oct. 21, Bell Mobility said that customers may experience interruptions to wireless service during this period. The notice advised customers to check the Bell website to see if their phone is compatible with Wi-Fi calling.

The notice said the company can be reached by customers at any hour by calling 611 directly from their cell phone, or by calling the toll-free number 1-800-667-0123. According to the notice, there is also an online chat support function on the company's website. According to the statement, Bell is investing more than $22 million in its wireless network in the Yukon over the next three years to improve speed and reliability.

The upgrades are part of that $22 million investment, according to a Bell spokesperson. This July, Premier Ranj Pillai sent a letter to Bell CEO Mirko Bibic, airing frustrations about poor telecommunications service in the territory. According to Pillai, Bell operates the cell towers in the territory.

Customers who called into Bell's Yukon-specific complaint line received a one-month credit on their bills. The Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services said it was monitoring the situation in late July. The poor service over the summer was experienced by customers on other providers, not just Bell.
